Every year, the Future Media Lab. hosts a conference in Brussels that brings together representatives from the media, technology and policy fields to discuss the future of Europe's media sector. In 2017, the conference activities spanned two days: 2 May and 3 May. The main conference was organised together with the European Commission on 2 May. The following day, the Future Media Lab. hosted a World Café session on the Future of Quality Journalism in the Digital Age as part of the "Difference Day" conference, which is a yearly event in Brussels on World Press Freedom Day.



Event Description



The 7th Future Media Lab. conference took place on 2-3 May 2017 in the Panoramic Hall at The Square in Brussels. This conference, titled “Driving Innovation for Media: Ensuring media pluralism and promoting trusted journalism in democracy“, was organised in cooperation with the European Commission as a follow-up to First Vice-President Timmermans' Colloquium on Media Pluralism and Democracy, which took place in November 2016. The event gathered approximately 180+ stakeholders, including media professionals, media start-ups, innovation partners, and policymakers, who discussed how media innovation and technological developments can promote media diversity and trusted journalism in Europe.
